(AP) — A Republican member of the Wisconsin Elections Commission who has faced calls to resign after falsely declaring that former President Donald Trump won the state claimed Thursday that he's done more for Black people than any other white Republican. Bob Spindell, who is white, made the remark after two members of the public called for him to resign during a commission meeting. “There is no white Republican that has done more for the Black community than me, so I suggest you go back and take a look at my past record,” Spindell said. Spindell credited a “well thought out multi-faceted plan” that included recruiting strong Republican candidates and reaching out to Black voters. “It’s very, very reassuring to me that Commissioner Spindell has come out boldly and said that Joseph Biden won in 2020," Thomsen said.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear Democratic Gov. Tony Evers' lawsuit against the Republican-controlled Legislature arguing that it is obstructing basic government functions. The court's liberal majority agreed to hear the case, with the three conservative justices dissenting. The court only agreed to immediately hear one of the three issues Evers brought forward in the complaint. The Legislature convened a lame duck session just weeks before Evers took office to weaken the incoming governor’s powers.

(AP) — Republicans who control the Wisconsin state Assembly were poised Thursday to pass a bill that would call for a binding statewide referendum to ban abortion after 14 weeks of pregnancy. Current Wisconsin law prohibits abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Planned Parenthood, which had ceased providing abortion services following the U.S. Supreme Court decision, resumed operations in September following the Dane County ruling. The case is on appeal and likely will end up before the state Supreme Court. Republicans will have tough time persuading Protasiewicz and the rest of the liberal majority to reinstate the abortion ban in full.

Evers has previously vetoed a similar income tax cut passed by the Legislature. Republicans gutted a $1 billion Evers proposal to invest in child care he called on the Legislature to pass in a special session in September. Instead, the Legislature passed a measure that would have cut income taxes, created a child care tax credit, and increased income tax deductions for private school tuition. (AP) — The Wisconsin state Senate is poised to approve a plan to spend more than half a billion dollars of public funds to help the Milwaukee Brewers repair their stadium over the next three decades. The Senate is expected to vote on the proposal during a floor session set to begin Tuesday morning. As of last week, Republican Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu was still trying to lock down enough votes to push the package. Brewer officials initially said the team might leave Milwaukee if they didn't get public dollars to help with the repairs. The Assembly last month approved a plan that calls for the state to contribute $411.5 million and the city of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County to contribute a combined $135 million.
